The Blue Marlin Inn will be holding a fundraiser on Friday, June 16 to raise funds for an Alberni Valley family in need.

Christina Frieson and and her son Chance, 2, live in Cochrane, Alberta, but Frieson (née Lauzon) was born and raised in Port Alberni.

Chance was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in April, and has been going through weekly lumbar punctures and chemotherapy treatments at Alberta Children’s Hospital.

Frisson is also recovering in the hospital herself, from complications from a routine hysterectomy.

Despite the fact that Frieson no longer lives in Port Alberni, she has been receiving a rush of support from family friends, such as Carol-Anne Phillips.

“We should all be there to support her,” said Phillips.

According to Phillips, Frieson has asked for others to start giving blood, after Chance had to go through a number of blood transfusions just to stay alive.

Chance has a Facebook page, “Hope for Chance,” as well as a GoFundMe, “Give Chance a chance.”

A Burger and Beer Night fundraiser has been arranged at the Blue Marlin Inn on Friday, June 16. Tickets are $15, with $10 from every ticket going towards the family. Tickets can be purchased from Forever New Consignment Shop on Argyle Street.
