Arts Around Alberni: new show to books that have to go
New exhibit in the queue
ConglomerART is the title of our next art exhibit at the Rollin Art Centre.
Feature artist Jim Kermeen will be showcasing, in his first exhibit ever, a conglomerate of acrylic paintings.
Kermeen’s exhibit starts Feb. 8 and runs until March 8. An artist reception will be held on Saturday, March 9, from 1-3 p.m. in the gallery.
Photo show nearing end
“Inspirations” is the current art exhibit at the Rollin Art Centre.
The exhibit is showing now through to Feb. 6.
This is an exciting arrangement of photographs showcasing the work of members of the Alberni Valley Photo Club.
The Rollin Art Centre is open Tuesday to Saturday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The gallery is located at the corner of Eighth Avenue and Argyle Street.
Admission is by donation and we are wheelchair accessible.
Arts council book donations
The Community Arts Council his now accepting gently used books for our annual book sale.
Please drop off all your gently used books in the box located under the stairs at the Rollin Art Centre.
This is one of the Community Arts Council’s biggest fundraisers.
Call out to artists
The Rollin Art centre is now accepting applications from all visual artists to exhibit their work in our Fine Arts Gallery during the 2014 calendar year.
Application forms are available at the Rollin Art Centre or you can download an application at www.portalberniarts.com. Deadline is April 30, 2013.

Words on fire at Char’s
Open mic continues on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at Char’s landing.
The event showcases local talented writers of all genres. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and readings begin at 7 p.m. p.m.
Writers have the opportunity to read pieces of fiction, non-fiction, poetry or memoir.
Admission is $5 at the door and covers refreshments and a draw.
Learn to paint watercolour
The class offers beginners, and those in search of more skill development, a relaxed environment to explore and learn the basic skills and techniques of watercolour painting.
Supply list available at Echo Centre. Eight sessions between Thursday Jan. 31- March 21, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $100. The course instructor is Peggy Burkosky.
