A Vancouver Island Music Award winner is coming to Port Alberni.

Ryan McMahon will be at Char’s Landing on Jan. 26, 2013.

The singer/ songwriter has been living at his home in Ladysmith since December of 2008.

“Since moving back, we (McMahon and his manager/wife,Cathleen) thought that the music would start taking a back seat to raising our family,” said McMahon. “But it has been the exact opposite. We have been busier to the point of being unable to explore stages close to home.”

McMahon recently arrived home to the excitement of the holiday season after spending about a month on the road with Wil. (www.ibreakstrings.com)

McMahon’s 2010 album “All Good Stories” won a Vancouver Island Music Award for Album of the Year. McMahon also received male vocalist of the year and artist of the year awards.

Since the ceremony in Victoria last year, McMahon has had the busiest year to date in his career. “The more I focused on just the music, the more I found opportunities finding me rather than finding myself searching opportunities for my music,” McMahon said.

McMahon has a  new album in the works.

After touring for the past couple of years playing for the people who come to listen.

McMahon says he is looking forward to spending the first half of 2013 putting the experiences and stories down onto the tracks.

He also plans to do a bit of travelling. McMahon will be taking small weekend adventures throughout Vancouver Island to reconnect with the special places close to home.

The Alberni show is on Saturday, Jan. 26, 8 p.m., at Char’s Landing, 4815 Argyle St.
