The Deakin Family and Friends Art Show, held the weekend of Nov. 16–17 in Uptown Port Alberni, was an exhibition of wonderful talents from local artists.

The show was maybe simple in its composition but Oh! How interesting!

Unusual and fascinating art might be the term that comes to mind when you look at Tim Deakin’s recycled arts, such as his customized stock bench, Kelly Deakin Carter’s pyrography on tree mushrooms or Sean Deakin’s soapstone sculptures and colourful ‘Vision Board’ painting as well as young Melissa Deakin’s watercolours and drawings.

On the “friends” side, I had been delighted by Karen Gamble’s photographs, which drew viewers into a vibrant world of macros and astonishing landscapes.

Thank you all for this presentation, it was exquisite.
