SPECIAL TO THE NEWS

Port Alberni’s Community Arts Council is partnering with the Arrowsmith Rotary Club to present a fun event at The Grove Art Gallery in November.

A two-week art exhibit will be featured at the Grove Art Gallery, and then on the night of Thursday, Nov. 9 there will be a live auction with special guest auctioneer Charles Mealey. We are looking for local artists to help with this fundraiser by donating any original artwork they have created. Special thanks to Alice Chicko and Jim Kermeen for donating many original pieces already.

If you would like to donate a piece or two, please contact Melissa at the Grove Art Gallery (#7-5440 Argyle Street at Harbour Quay) or call 250-724-3412. Many thanks for your generous support.

A FEW SPOTS LEFT

In an upcoming three-hour workshop, you will learn the basic techniques of the Japanese art of Shibori tie-dyeing, with a brief overview of the history of the art form and present-day examples. Students will be introduced to the materials needed and there will be ample time to practice basic techniques of folding, binding and clamping using multiple dye baths for immersion and surface painting.

This workshop takes place Saturday, Oct. 14 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Grove Art Gallery. The cost is $80 plus $50 for supplies. Register at 250-724-3412.

CALLING ALL ARTISANS

The Community Arts Council will be holding a one-day pre-Christmas at the Mill artisan market, in partnership with McLean Mill, on Saturday Oct. 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There are only outdoor spaces left in the main courtyard area (tents will be needed). Call today to register and claim your spot: 250-724-3412, or stop by the Grove Art Gallery at Harbour Quay.

BACK IN TIME

“Back In Time” is the current group art exhibit on display at the Grove Art Gallery at Harbour Quay.

This exhibit is centred around local photographic images of the Alberni Valley (supplied by the Alberni Valley Museum) taken during the turn of the century. Some of our artists did great research in creating their original pieces. This is truly a fun and exciting exhibit, showcasing some of the Valley’s many creatives.

The exhibit runs until Oct. 27. The Grove is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

SUPPORT LOCAL ARTISTS

We are looking for individuals, families or businesses who would like to offer sponsorship prize money for a best in show award or artist’s receptions.

If you would like to sponsor a future art exhibit, please contact Melissa Martin at the Grove Art Gallery for details: 250-724-3412. Tax receipts are available for any sponsorships over $100.

FILM FESTIVAL

There is a lineup of three new films for Film Fest Port Alberni, starting Sunday, Sept. 24.

Series passes and tickets are available at the Alberni Valley Museum (open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and open until 8 p.m. on Thursdays). All films are shown on Sundays at 5 p.m. at the Paramount Theatre.
