The Community Arts Council of the Alberni Valley will host a live art auction at the Grove Art Gallery on Thursday, Nov. 9. This fundraising event is being presented in partnership with the Arrowsmith Rotary club.

This ticketed evening event, honouring art, music, fun, food and wine, begins at 6:30 p.m., but the celebration really begins on Oct. 31 with a two-week art exhibit on display at the Grove. The main event on Nov. 9 will be a live auction with special guest auctioneer, city councillor Charles Mealey, catered food by Grassroots, wine, music by Dennis Olsen and Guy Langlois, and a chance to check out the art being auctioned.

Tickets are $40 each and available now at the Grove, 7-5440 Argyle St. (in Harbour Quay). Tickets include food and one drink. All proceeds will support local arts and artisans, Rotary literacy and bursary programs.

PAVERPOL FOR BEGINNERS

Cheryl Frehlich is offering a two-day workshop on Paverpol for Beginners this weekend at the Grove Art Gallery.

Paverpol is a environmentally safe textile hardener which endures outdoors. In this course participants will learn to create a sculpture using unique materials and techniques. Join Cheryl, a certified instructor of Paverpol, Friday, Oct. 27 from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 28 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Grove Art Gallery. Cost is $165 and includes most supplies. Space is limited; register by calling 250-724-3412.

WINTER GREENS, HOLIDAY WREATHS

The Grove Art Gallery is holding another fundraiser, this one with a deadline of Nov. 1. The Community Arts Council of the Alberni Valley is selling poinsettias, holiday door wreaths and planters. Funds raised will help with future children and adult programs and events. Orders will be available for pickup on Dec. 1. Call the Grove Gallery or drop in during opening hours for more information.

ARTISANS NEEDED FOR MARKET

The Community Arts Council is seeking artisans to present their work at the annual Mistletoe Market, which will run from Nov. 14 - Dec. 23 at the Grove Art Gallery at Harbour Quay.

This is not a typical market, as the art gallery takes on a holiday flair. For more info, please call the gallery at 250-724-3412, email communityarts@shaw.ca or stop by the gallery.

FIBRE GUILD SEEKS EQUIPMENT

The Alberni Valley Fibre Guild is looking for donations of fibre-based equipment, such as looms and spinning wheels. Since storage is limited, guild executive members are requesting only lap or table-sized looms for now. Equipment will be used for teaching and learning purposes.

If you have equipment you would like to donate, please email: WestCoast-Fibre@proton.me.

‘BEST IN SHOW,’ PRESENTED BY…
