ARTS AROUND: Last chance to check out retrospective art exhibit at The Grove

There are only a couple weeks left to check out the art exhibit in Port Alberni showcasing the work of the late artist E.J. Miller-Towle.

The current art exhibit at the Grove Art Gallery, titled “A Life’s Work,” showcases an exclusive collection of pieces by the late E.J. Miller-Towle, offering a retrospective journey through her career as a commercial artist and illustrator.

The exhibits only until Feb. 16. The Grove Art Gallery, located at Harbour Quay, is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

UPCOMING EXHIBITION

Don’t miss the upcoming art exhibit at the Grove Art Gallery, featuring local artists Cairis Wall and Lorne McNab in a duo exhibit titled “Neon & Nature.”

This exhibit will combine mixed media, abstract art and pen and ink with watercolors, presenting a harmonious collaboration between the two artists.

The exhibit opens Feb. 22 and runs until March 22.

CALL TO ARTISTS

Artists are invited to embark on a creative journey with our spring art exhibit at the Grove Art Gallery, titled “When Colour Speaks to You – IGNITE YOUR IMAGINATION.”

If you wish to showcase your artistic prowess, you can submit up to three pieces for this unique exhibit. Submission fees are $10. Detailed submission information is available at the Grove Art Gallery or online at www.alberniarts.com. This is open to artists of all mediums.

The exhibit will open March 26 and run until April 26.

AN AFTERNOON OF SONG

Join us for a special fundraising spring concert presented by the Community Arts Council, featuring the Greater Victoria Police Chorus. The event takes place on Sunday, April 14 at the ADSS Auditorium from 2-4 p.m. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased at the Grove Arts Gallery in Harbour Quay.

COMMUNITY ARTS COUNCIL SEEKS LEADERS

The Community Arts Council is actively searching for board members passionate about social initiatives, including diversity, inclusion, equity, accessibility and reconciliation.

We welcome directors of diverse backgrounds, ages, and perspectives and individuals with critical thinking skills and expertise in writing, volunteering, HR, finance, organization and fundraising. No arts background is necessary.

UPCOMING WORKSHOPS

Join us at the Grove Art Gallery for a few exciting art workshops in 2024.

- Two-day beginner paverpol workshop with Cheryl Frehlich on Saturday, March 16 (10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) and Saturday, March 23 (10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.). Cost is $165, including most supplies.

- Basic coloured pencil workshop with Jim Sears on Saturday, Feb. 24. Cost is $75.

- Making Waves acrylic painting workshop with Susan Schaefer on April 13 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Cost is $125.

- Limited Palette acrylic painting workshop with Susan Schaefer on Saturday, June 8 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Cost is $125.
