SPECIAL TO THE NEWS

Do you want to help support local art and the local artists who create?

The Community Arts Council are looking for individuals, families or businesses who would like to sponsor prize money for a “best in show” prize for our art exhibits.

If you would like to sponsor a future art exhibit, please contact Melissa Martin at the Grove Art Gallery for details: 250-724-3412. Tax receipts are available for any sponsorships over $100.

GREAT FALL WORSHOP

Learn the basic techniques of the Japanese art of Shibori tie-dyeing in this three-hour workshop at the Grove Art Gallery.

There will be a brief overview of the history of the art form, as well as present day examples. Students will be introduced to the materials needed, and there will be ample time to practice basic techniques of folding, binding and clamping using multiple dye baths for immersion and surface painting.

The workshop will take place Saturday, Oct. 14 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The cost is $80 plus $50 for all supplies. Register at 250-724-3412.

CALLING ALL ARTISANS

The Community Arts Council is excited to announce a one-day pre-Christmas at the Mill artisan market at McLean Mill on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Space is available for this one day event, both inside the main building and in the outside courtyard. Space is limited, so call today to register and pick your spot: 250-724-3412, or stop by the Grove Art Gallery at Harbour Quay.

BACK IN TIME

The current art exhibit at the Grove Art Gallery at Harbour Quay centres around local photographic images of the Alberni Valley, supplied by the Alberni Valley Museum and taken during the turn of the century. Artists were encouraged to create something based on a randomly-selected image.

This is truly a fun and exciting exhibit, showcasing some of the Valley’s many creatives. It runs until Oct. 27. The Grove is open from Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

FILM FESTIVAL

There is a new lineup of three new films for the Fall Film Fest. All films are shown on Sundays at 5 p.m. at the Paramount Theatre.

Series passes and tickets are now on sale at the Alberni Valley Museum. The museum is open from Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (and open until 8 p.m. on Thursdays).
