SPECIAL TO THE NEWS

The Arts Council along with the Alberni Valley Fibre Guild, will bring a fun afternoon of creativity to Harbour Quay on Saturday, Nov. 25. Join instructor Janet Finch for a three-hour scarf-dyeing workshop, 12:30-3:30 p.m. at the Grove Art Gallery.

Come and learn how to dye silk and rayon Devore scarves using two dyes together, one for each type of fibre. Participants will have an enjoyable time getting to meet others interested in dyes and fibres and join in starting up the new fibre group in town.

Supplies are included in the fee, which is $50 per person. Please bring your own rubber gloves and an apron. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.

CORKS, CANVASES, FUNDRAISING

Join us Thursday, Nov. 9 at 6:30 p.m. for Cork and Canvas at the Grove Art Gallery, for a ticketed event celebrating art, music, fun, food and wine. The arts council has partnered with Arrowsmith Rotary for a special exhibition beginning Oct. 31 and culminating Nov. 9 with a live art auction featuring guest auctioneer Charles Mealey on Nov. 9.

The event will be catered by Grassroots with music by Dennis Olsen and Guy Langlois.

Tickets are now on sale the Grove Art Gallery for $40 each (tickets include food and one drink). All proceeds will support local arts and artisans, and Rotary literacy and bursary programs.

MISTLETOE MARKET’S AROUND CORNER

The Community Arts Council is calling on new and past participating artisans to display their work in the annual Mistletoe Market, taking place at the Grove Art Gallery.

This longtime Alberni Valley tradition runs from Nov. 14 to Dec. 23 and is a great way for artists to showcase their work in a holiday setting.

If you are interested, please call us at 250-724-3412 for details, email communityarts@shaw.ca, or stop in to see us.

LOOMS, SPINNING WHEELS SOUGHT

The Alberni Valley Fibre Guild is looking for donations of fibre-based equipment, such as looms and spinning wheels. Since storage is limited, guild members are requesting lap or table-sized looms for now. Equipment will be used for teaching and learning purposes. If you have equipment you would like to donate, please email: WestCoast-Fibre@proton.me.
