SPECIAL TO THE NEWS

The Community Arts Council is seeking new and past-participating artisans to display their work in our annual Alberni Valley tradition, Mistletoe Market.

This is not a typical market, as it runs at the Grove Art Gallery from Nov. 14 to Dec. 23, with the art gallery taking on a holiday flare. It is a great way to showcase your work.

If you are interested, please call us at 250-724-3412 for details, email us at communityarts@shaw.ca or stop by to see us in person at #7-5440 Argyle Street (at the Harbour Quay).

SHIBORI TIE-DYEING

This is your last chance to join us for our Shibori tie-dyeing workshop at the Grove Art Gallery.

Register with a friend and join us for this three-hour workshop, where you will learn the basic techniques of the Japanese art of Shibori tie-dyeing. You will be introduced to the materials needed, with ample time to practice basic techniques of folding, binding and clamping using multiple dye baths for immersion and surface painting.

The workshop takes place Saturday, Oct. 14 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Grove Art Gallery. The cost is $80 plus $50 for all supplies. Register at 250-724-3412.

KICK OFF CHRISTMAS

Join us for our “Christmas at the Mill” artisan market, in partnership with McLean Mill, on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Get a jump on the holidays while supporting local creatives at this fun, one-day event.

The main building and outside courtyard will be filled with artisans of all types, including pottery, glass, jewellery, paintings, wood carvings, paverpol, silk, candles, fabric art, textiles, gnomes, glass, crochet and more. Big Smoke BBQ food truck will also be on site.

LIVE AUCTION FUNDRAISER

Join us on Thursday, Nov. 9 at 6:30 p.m. down at The Grove Art Gallery at Harbour Quay for a ticketed event celebrating art, music, fun, food and wine.

The Community Arts Council has partnered with Arrowsmith Rotary on a two-week art exhibit. The exhibit starts on Oct. 31 and will conclude with the main event on Nov. 9, a live auction with special guest auctioneer city councillor Charles Mealey.

There will also be catered food by Grassroots, wine, music by Dennis Olsen and Guy Langlois and a chance to check out the art being auctioned.

Tickets are now on sale at the Grove Art Gallery for $40 (tickets include food and one drink). This is a fundraiser, so all proceeds go to support local art and artisans, as well as Rotary literacy and bursary programs.

BACK IN TIME

It’s a great time to check out the current art exhibit, “Back in Time,” at the Grove Art Gallery.

This exhibit is centred around local photographic images of the Alberni Valley, supplied by the Alberni Valley Museum, taken during the turn of the century.

This exhibit runs until Oct. 27.

SEEKING SPONSORS

We are looking for individuals, families or businesses who would like to sponsor prize money or an artists’ reception for our 2024 open art exhibits.

If you are interested in sponsorship, please contact Melissa Martin at the Grove Art Gallery for details: 250-724-3412. Tax receipts are available for any sponsorships over $100.
