Fiddling sensation Calvin Vollrath will be making a stop at Char’s Landing in Port Alberni during his nine-day tour of British Columbia.

Vollrath is recognized internationally for his performing, teaching, judging and composing abilities and is considered the driving force behind the revitalization of fiddle music in Canada. To date, he has released 72 albums and has composed more than 800 tunes, many which are being played in fiddle contests and dance halls across North America and Europe. Vollrath was even commissioned to compose five fiddle tunes for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics Opening Ceremonies. He has been recognized with several honours, including induction into the North American Fiddler’s Hall of Fame and the Country Music Alberta Hall of Fame, to name just two.

Vollrath is a self-taught musician that plays by ear and he has taught and inspired hundreds of fiddlers around the world with his approach to music.

While his roots are in Canadian fiddle music, he also embraces and excels in many other styles. At any one of his concerts, you could hear something from the Beatles, Louis Armstrong, Tom Jones, Hank Williams, Stephan Grapelli, Bob Wills, along with plenty of his own compositions.

He will be joined at Char’s Landing by Jeremy Rusu, a talented blind musician from Brockville, Ontario. Rusu will accompany Vollrath on piano, accordion and guitar on this tour.

“Jeremy has a special talent and I can’t wait to make music with him, as together I know we will entertain and wow audiences,” says Vollrath.

The show at Char’s Landing will take place on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at https://calvinvollrath.bpt.me.
