Victoria musical artist Sue Decker will mark her return to Char’s Landing in Port Alberni with a new album.

On Saturday, May 4, Decker will celebrate in Port Alberni the release of her new album, Keeping Time, which has been getting international acclaim.

For the album, Decker collaborated with sought-after roots producer Steve Dawson to record at The Henhouse Studio in Nashville. The album has garnered rave reviews internationally and has made it into the Top 10 on national folk, roots and blues charts.

On Keeping Time, Decker’s unique capacity for pairing meaningful and topical lyrics with ear-catching melodies shines through. The tracks range from a country rock song about the opioid crisis to sassy and playful blues and intimate folk ballads. Listeners come away feeling enlivened and knowing that they are not alone in the struggles of this life.

Port Alberni audiences will be familiar with Sue’s witty and warm presence on stage. This concert promises something for first-time and returning roots and blues fans alike: new songs from Keeping Time and favourites from Decker’s first album Outskirts of Love combined with covers of influences like John Prine and early blues women.

Joining Sue (vocals, guitar, lap steel) will be Denny Box (drums), Ellen Box (bass) and Gavin Hodgins (guitar, mandolin, vocals).

The show will take place Saturday, May 4 at Char’s Landing at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available at www.brownpapertickets.com or by calling or texting Char at 250-730-1636.
