Port Alberni Portal Players Dramatic Society picked up a couple of awards at the Vancouver Island One Act Play Festival.

The festival, which was hosted at the Village Theatre in Qualicum Beach from Jan. 10-14, featured performances by theatre groups from Nanaimo, Port Alberni, Quadra Island, Gabriola and Qualicum Beach.

The Portal Players brought two one-act plays, My Narrator and The Exquisite Hour, to the festival and were recognized with a Certificate for Special Achievement in Set Design.

In addition, actor Darien Edgeler won Best Actor in a Male Lead Role for his performance in The Exquisite Hour. This is Edgeler’s second award with the Portal Players, as he also won Best Actor at the North Island Zone Drama Festival last year.

Adjudicator Michael Armstrong commended the performers, writers and directors at the One Act Play Festival for their exceptional contributions.

“The level of talent showcased in this year’s One Act Play Festival was exceptional,” he said. “Each performance brought a unique and compelling aspect to the stage, making the judging process an exhilarating experience.”
