LETTER: How much more will taxpayers have to pay for Rainbow Gardens?

To the Editor,

To the Editor,

Re: Rainbow Gardens asks to waive development fees, June 15

It’s bad enough that Port Alberni City Council totally disregarded the wishes of a majority of the residents of Westporte Place and sold their neighbourhood park, (in spite of considerable time and effort by residents protesting that action), for a heavily discounted price.

Now, the taxpayers of Port Alberni, should (again), lose more money, by setting a precedent to not charge non-profit interest groups development fees for their pet projects?

Here’s a question that city council should answer, “How much more money will the taxpayers of Port Alberni have to dish out to make up for the losses of income for projects such as this, that could be used to support our crumbling infrastructure and reduce the regular annual tax increases?”

A. Casey,
