LETTER: Rainbow Gardens’ request to waive fees opens can of worms

To the Editor,

To the Editor,

Re: Rainbow Gardens asks to waive development fees, June 15.

When I read in your paper lately that Rainbow Gardens was asking for the waiving of development fees, hookups and permits I just couldn’t believe it. They had already received the property to build the facility at a gift price by the city, far below real estate value.

Beside that, the Westporte community was not in favour of it being built, turning their residential area into a high density living space plus losing their green space area. Now the city taxpayers are being asked to foot the bill on the above mentioned.

Did Rainbow Gardens ever have enough money to build a facility of this nature? From the looks of it, no.

Mayor Ruttan had best keep his eyes wide open when making any decision on this venture. Rainbows Gardens is a society and using taxpayers money to fund societies in the Valley could really open up a can of worms. I’m sure there are many societies just waiting for the decision on this one, no doubt.
