BCHL: Clippers put an end to Alberni Valley Bulldogs win streak

Bulldogs fell 5-2 to the visiting Nanaimo Clippers at the Alberni Valley Multiplex

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs’ win streak has ended at seven games.

The Nanaimo Clippers knocked off the Bulldogs 5-2 on Saturday night at the Dawg Pound in front of 1,664 fans. Leading 3-2 late in the game, the Clippers found the empty net on two occasions to seal the win.

Nicholas Beneteau and Matias Myllykoski each scored powerplay goals for the Bulldogs. Beneteau’s goal tied the game 2-2 at 14:12 of the third, but the Clippers gave it right back as Cole Lonsdale kept the puck on a 2-on-1 break and ripped it past Bulldogs starter Callum Tung for the 3-2 lead. The Clippers never looked back and earned their first win against the Bulldogs this season.

Tung allowed three goals on 24 shots in the loss.

The loss ended the Bulldogs’ winning streak at seven games and their record falls to 13-5-0-0 on the year. Up next is a battle with the Surrey Eagles on Friday night at the Nest. The Eagles have suffered just one loss this year and the clubs are meeting for the first time since the Bulldogs eliminated the Eagles from the playoffs last season in seven games.

The Bulldogs won’t be back at home until Saturday, Nov. 25, when the Nanaimo Clippers come back to town. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
