North Island College took charge of the womens’ basket ball spring league championship game with an early 13-point lead.

R.Schut Construction battled back and by the second half had clawed back within five points with a minute left in the game. R.Schut’s last second half court shot to tie the game rimmed out giving the inaugural Port Alberni Women’s Basketball League championship to North Island College with a score of 64 to 61. Top scorers for North Island College were Mercedes Brown with 18 points and Laurissa Jimmy with 17 points. Top scorers for R.Schut Contruction were Tia Anderson with 21 points, Francine Charleson and Emily West with 13 points each.

RE/MAX started the game strong and held a seven-point lead into half time. The second half saw back and forth action with AV Financial finally tying up the contest in the final minutes. AV Financials shots continued to ripple the mesh earning them third place. The final score was 44 for AV Financial and 38 for RE/MAX. Top scorers for AV Finanacial were Samantha Jeffery with 13 points and Briana Anderson with 11 points. Top scorers for North Island College were Abby Broekhuizen and Mya Smith with 10 points each.
