Fire crews called out again to Somass Mill in Alberni
Fire crews from multiple fire departments as well as ambulances were dispatched to Somass Mill in Port Alberni, around 11:30 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 5). It was the second time crews had been called to the mill in four days.
On Thursday, Port Alberni, Beaver Creek and Sproat Lake fire departments were called to the mill, owned by Western Forest Products, when embers were spotted inside enclosed piping near the head rig.
Crews were inside the mill at midnight, with two trucks from Sproat Lake Fire Department and an ambulance standing by outside. No more information was available.
