Continued leakage problems keeps Echo pool closed
Echo pool remains closed and October programs have been cancelled in the wake of continued leakage problems, Parks and Recreation Manager Scott Kenny said.
The pool is still leaking 1.5 cubic metres of water per hour, which would equate to a complete water change every month if the pool were open, Kenny said.
Pool staff first identified leakage problems more than three weeks ago. The culprit was thought to be perimeter grouting and a new material was installed. That work has since been finished but the problem persists, Kenny said.
The pools concrete water supply trench, which extends down the centre of the pool, is suspected to be the problem, Kenny said. The area was serviced but the leak persists, he added.
Staff have pulled out the stops and are examining the pools using pipe inspection cameras to find the problem, he added.
There is no firm date for the pool to be re-opened yet.
Swimming programs scheduled to start in the first week of October have been cancelled and families are now being contacted, he added.
