Catalyst Paper mill manager Tom Paisley is headed back home to New Brunswick after three and a half years in Port Alberni.

The announcement was made to mill staff on Monday and a search for a replacement is underway.

Paisley’s last day will be in mid-October after which he will head to New Brunswick, where he is originally from and still maintains a small property.

“Our son and daughter still live there. Our daughter is getting ready to give birth to our first grandchild,” Paisley said.  “It’s home, so it’s a good time to move.”

Paisley has spent more than three years at Catalyst’s mill in Port Alberni. He came from Catalyst’s mill in Campbell River, which closed permanently in 2010. Before that he worked at mills in Prince Albert, Sask. and in Miramichi, NB.

Paisley has enjoyed his stay in Alberni, he said. “It’s beautiful country here.”

Paisley said he isn’t aware of any sendoff plans at the mill. “I’m not much for goodbyes. Maybe we’ll just have a beer at a pub,” he said.
