Two units of a fourplex are heavily damaged and two have smoke and water damage after fire ripped through the multi-family residence on Falls Street, Monday night.

Firemen from Beaver Creek, Sproat Lake and the Port Alberni Fire Department responded to 9-1-1 calls about the fire at 9 p.m., Beaver Creek Volunteer Fire Department Chief Charlie Starratt said.

Once there, fire personnel found a garage and two living units fully involved. Firemen entered one of the burning units shortly after they arrived on scene because one resident was unaccounted for. The resident was later found safe; she had been at another location when someone contacted her about the fire.

Firemen brought the blaze under control within a half hour and remained on the scene until midnight mopping up. There were no fatalities or injuries reported, Starratt said.

Two of the inside living units sustained heavy fire damage while the two corner units suffered only smoke and water damage.

The investigation into the cause of the fire continues, Starratt said.

The fire was in Alberni Clayoquot Region District jurisdiction but Port Alberni and Sproat Lake responded under a mutual aid agreement.
