Search on for mushroom pickers overdue in Bamfield
Search and rescue personnel from Alberni Valley Rescue Squad, the Bamfield volunteer fire department and civilians are looking for two mushroom pickers reported overdue in the Bamfield area Sunday night.
"They left at noon yesterday and were noticed missing around 6:30 p.m.," Port Alberni RCMP Cpl. Jen Allan said.
Their vehicle was discovered a couple of kilometres down Black Lake Main, which branches off Bamfield Road near the West Coast Trail trailhead. Friends of the pickers plus volunteer fire department members from Bamfield and ad hoc search and rescue personnel conducted an initial search, but the RCMP were called at 10 p.m. Sunday, Allan said.
"It looks like the fog rolled in and they hunkered down as a result of the fog. They're in quite thick bush," she said.
