Alberni RCMP hunt for manslaughter suspect
A Port Alberni man about to appear in court on manslaughter charges has gone missing.
Port Alberni RCMP issued an arrest warrant for Valley resident William David Oickle, 28. Oickle was charged with one count of manslaughter in the death of George Ledrew last November.
Police believe that Oickle is living in the Alberni area but they haven't been able to locate him, RCMP Cpl. Jen Allan said in a press release.
Oickle is described as Caucasian, five feet ten inches tall with red hair and blue eyes. He also has a tattoo of scorpion on the right side of his neck .He weighs anywhere between 166-210 pounds.
Anyone who has seen Oickle is advised not to directly contact him and instead call 9-1-1 to report his location.
In November 2011, police responded to reports of a man passed out on a sidewalk in the vicinity of Eighth Avenue and Maitland Street at 1:30 a.m.
Officers responded to the scene and immediately called BC Ambulance, who responded and declared the man dead.
The man showed signs of injury and certain factors about the incident promoted police to deem the death suspicious so the forensic identification unit was brought in to aid the investigation. Oickle was then charged on Nov. 25.
Oickle last appeared in Port Alberni Provincial Court in October for a trial confirmation hearing. He was next scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 26 for a preliminary inquiry.
