Alberni Christmas bird count coming up
The annual Christmas bird count takes place in the Alberni Valley on Sunday, Dec. 30 this year.
There are two ways people can participate in the bird count: as a feeder counter or as a field counter.
Feeder counters count birds they see at their birdfeeder. Field counters go to various places around the Valley, both in urban and bush settings.
Organizer Sandy McRuer is also looking for people to search for specific birds, such as owls or Grey Jays (Whiskey Jacks). This may mean travelling further afield within the count circle.
A social event at the Golden Dragon traditionally follows the bird count.
For more information or to sign up, please call Sandy McRuer at 250-723-5436 or Sally Anderson, 250-724-2137.
There is also a Facebook page; search ‘Port Alberni Christmas Bird Count’.
