Families get into literacy at Echo Centre
Parks and Recreation, the Vancouver Island Regional Library and several other local agencies are putting on another Family Literacy Day on Saturday, Feb. 2.
Families with children aged two to eight years are invited to participate in this free community event to celebrate Family Literacy Day. Activities are inspired by the book Blueberries for Sal, written by Robert McCloskey in 1948.
This year’s event features waffles and fruit. Avalon Farm owners Kerry and Cathy McDonald are providing blueberries for the blueberry topping and Quality Foods is donating waffles and yogurt for the event.
“We think it’s a great event and we like to support literacy,” Cathy McDonald said.
The literacy breakfast starts at 11 a.m. and goes until 1 p.m. Families are invited to bring uncut fruit to contribute to the dessert.
To register, please call Echo Centre at 250-723-2181.
