Three years ago, Barb Witte brought the Investors Group Walk for Memories to the Alberni Valley as a way to bring attention to Alzheimer Disease, which had robbed her father of his memory. The walk has raised nearly $20,000 for Alzheimer research and support programs.

Although she lost her father two years ago, Witte is bringing the walk back to the Alberni Valley for the third year in the row.

This year’s Walk for Memories takes place Sunday, Jan. 27 at Glenwood Centre. Registration is 10 a.m. and the walk goes from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend; there are fundraising opportunities laid out at www.walkformemories.com.

This year’s walk will be in honour of Wendy Buffie, who passed away last year after dealing with early onset Alzheimer’s. Buffie spent 19 years working with Canada Post. Her three daughters remember her as a dedicated mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and wife (to Jack Buffie) who was devoted to her family and took great pride in family traditions.
