Hwy 4 accident victim identified
The BC Coroners Service has identified the victim of two-vehicle collision on Highway 4 on Jan. 25.
Jaspreet Parmar, 25, of Nanaimo died after the cube van he was driving collided with a BC Hydro truck atop the Hump just after 1:20 p.m.
Officers from the RCMP traffic collision department are still investigating the accident, RCMP Cpl. Jen Allan said. Early indications are that Parmar's west-bound vehicle was on the wrong side of the centre line when it crashed into the east-bound BC Hydro truck, Allan said.
Some witnesses have suggested that Parmar appeared to be texting when the accident happened. “There is no indication on the file that this was the case. But the matter is still under investigation,” Allan said.
The 47-year-old driver of the BC Hydro truck was treated for injuries to her left arm and released from West Coast General Hospital on the same day.
