Surrell buys old Shell property

Mike Surrell of Lady Rose Marine Services has purchased the old Shell property adjacent to his dock and plans to develop a commercial building in the near future.

“I have purchased the property and we’re going to clean it up,” Surrell said Tuesday.

The property, nestled between Lady Rose Marine Services and the Marine Building at Harbour Quay, was formerly occupied by the Columbia Fuels fuel tank farm. The waterfront depot was shut down in the spring of 2008. Remediation work began in 2011 and the building was demolished.

The property will remain behind fencing until Surrell gets the paperwork, and until he receives the final OK from his insurance company.

Surrell was mum on future plans for the site. “I’m going to do nothing with it at this point except make it presentable so it looks clean for the town,” he said.
