Fall-River roads corner remains unchanged
Improvements to the corner of River Road and Falls Road won’t happen any time soon.
According to some councillors, the area has been the site of several accidents and near misses over the years, City engineer Guy Cicon said.
One possible explanation could be that drivers coming into town are distracted by the view of the Somass River to the right as they cross the bridge. Distracted from looking left, they don’t notice traffic turning onto River Road from Falls Road, Cicon said.
Installing a convex mirror at the intersection was suggested at the advisory planning commission. But the image is distorted and doesn’t accurately gauge how far away a car is, Cicon said.
Compounding this is that the area falls under the jurisdiction of the provincial Ministry of Transportation.
Similar issues are just down the road at River Road and Beaver Creek, Coun. Dan Washington said. “It’s a concern, especially during fishing season.”
The MOT can be prompted about the issues. “But I don’t know what to say other than exercise caution when going through it,” Cicon said of the River Road and Falls Road intersection.
