The man accused of running down a local police officer twice within a minute in September, was freed on bail yesterday.

Forty-Five year old Richard Parlby was already on bail for possessing child pornography and restricted weapons. When police tried to arrest him on breaching bail conditions on Sept. 24, he fled, running over a police officer and a civilian in the Walmart parking lot.

He turned himself into police two days later, and has been held in jail ever since.

Yesterday Judge Ronald Lamperson freed Parlby, ordering he return to Port Alberni court on Jan. 16, 2014 to fix a date for his trial on 24 charges related to the incident in the parking lot, and also attend his court dates in Nanaimo in April where he will face the child pornography and weapons charges.

Parlby is facing 10 years in jail for the crimes.
