Crack house taken down near elementary school
Five people are facing a series of drug charges after police took down a drug house located two blocks from an elementary school.
Acting on a tip from the public, Port Alberni RCMP raided a home in the 4400 block of Beaufort Street just two two blocks away from Alberni Elementary School on Feb. 26, RCMP Cpl. Jen Allan said in a press release.
Police seized a significant quantity of powdered and crack cocaine, methamphetamine, and prescription painkillers from five people in the home. Other evidence showed that the suspects were making crack cocaine on site.
Police are recommending charges for possession for the purposes of trafficking a controlled substance against all five people, who remain in custody, Allan said.
One of the male suspects is well known to police for drug activity, Allan said, declining to name the man. At the time of his arrest two outstanding warrants were in effect for his arrest for breaching a probation order which prohibited him from possessing or consuming drugs.
Police encourage residents to contact the Port Alberni RCMP detachment (723-2424) or Crime Stoppers (1-800-222-TIPS) if they have information pertaining to other drug crimes occurring in the community.
