Imagine being alone in a foreign wilderness location, left to fend for yourself. How long would you last?

For Megan Hanacek, the forest stewardship specialist with the Association of BC Forest Professionals and a resident of Vancouver Island, the answer was 78 days.

Hanacek participated in Season 3 of History Channel’s Alone TV program, where she lived in solitude with only 10 primitive tools to hunt, fish, fend off predators and secure shelter, fire and water. She was the longest-lasting Canadian to date in a program that spent the first two seasons in the North Island wilderness, which is Hanacek’s backyard. Season 3 took place in Patagonia, Argentina, on the southern tip of South America.

Hanacek will speak about her experiences at the Capitol Theatre on Thursday, June 8 from 6:30–8:30 p.m. Proceeds from this event go to help the Alberni Valley Rescue Squad.x

Tickets for Alone in Patagonia are $10 each and available at Canadian Tire, Quality Foods, Walk the Coast and Healthy Habits.
