Port Alberni man charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault

Charges stem from an incident at a McDonald's restaurant that occurred on Tuesday, Nov. 2.

Port Alberni RCMP arrested and charged a 20-year-old man with aggravated assault after a two-month old baby was brought to BC Children's Hospital with critical injuries.

Steven David Kaspers, 25, has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault following an incident that occurred in the McDonald’s restaurant on Johnston Road on Tuesday, Nov. 1.

Police were called to the McDonald’s Restaurant on Johnston Road at 7:30 a.m. where a 51-year-old Port Alberni man had been stabbed repeatedly.

A suspect fled on foot and was apprehended later that morning.

The victim remains in stable condition in Victoria General  Hospital.

Kaspers will remain in custody until his next court appearance on Nov. 16 at 10 a.m.
