A water main break on 10th Avenue and Burde Street caused a full road closure for a few hours earlier today.
Extensive repair work had to be undertaken, according to water systems chargehand Amar Giri, to attend to a three-inch hole in a six-inch cast iron line.
10th Avenue between Bute Street and North Park Drive had to be closed for part of the day, and detours had to be put in place.
The cause of the break, said Giri, was most likely the age of the pipe, which had been installed in the 1970s.
“This particular line, we’ve had three breaks in the last five years,” he said.
Following a repair of the line, city crews are now paving the site with asphalt, and the road should be reopened by this evening.
