Donald Barber

March 8, 1929 - September 28, 2017

Don, loving husband, devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather went to heaven peacefully in the midst of his family on Thursday, Sept.28.

Predeceased by his wife Marjory, son David and wife Anna, and grand-daughter Nicolina. 

Survived by Douglas, Gail, Cal (Melony), Keith (Seanna), Brian, Denise (Colin) Haime, Ross (Marjorie-Ann), Donna (Glen) Gabel, 18 grand-children, 12 great-grandchildren and 2 on the way.  Dad was born in Piapot, Saskatchewan and always remained a 'prairie-boy', "Go 'Riders!"

A devoted father and grandfather, Don loved his family and shared many happy memories in his home on the river. 

Mom and Dad loved fishing and enjoyed their time at the float-cabin in Useless Inlet.  Dad faithfully cared for Mom during her declining years until 2010.

He built several family homes in his life time and freely offered his skills to assist others.  He was a skilled mechanic and applied himself to many other projects, including Power Squadron driver training and shake business. 

Don served as Fire Chief at Alpulp for many years and was the first Fire Chief of Beaver Creek Fire Dept. 

Don's family expresses tremendous gratitude to the amazing team of medical professionals and home care support who assisted him in recent years.

Interment will take place Thursday, Oct.5, at 11 am at the Greenwood Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life will follow at 12 noon at the Chapel of Memories, 4005 6th Ave., Port Alberni.
