In loving memory ~

Jack William Payne was born September 27th, 1949 (74) in Victoria, BC and passed peacefully at his home in Port Alberni on March 30, 2024, surrounded by family and close friends. Jack was a devoted father to his three boys and was deeply involved in coaching hockey, softball, and soccer for many years. He also served as the President of the Sunday SLO-pitch league and played with the Arli Whiners team.

After a distinguished 29 year career in the RCMP (General Duties, Hwy Patrol then Forensics), Jack retired in October 1998 and became the first Bylaw Enforcement Officer in Port Alberni. After his retirement, Jack and Lorraine spent many years in Mesa, Arizona where they spent a devoted amount of time on the ball field and in the pool playing water volleyball. Jack loved being in Mesa with old friends and always making new ones. He was passionate about sports enjoying golf, badminton, softball, pickleball, boating on Sproat Lake and camping with his family. Jack was also skilled in home renovations and spent many hours improving homes in Port Alberni.

Jack is survived by his loving spouse of 50 years, Lorraine; sons, Scott William Payne (Julia) and Mark James Payne (Treena); his grandsons, Wade Petten, Luke, and Josh. He is also survived by his sister, Jill, her husband Merle, and many extended family members.

A celebration of Jack's life will be held on June 22, 2024, at 2:30, at his home in Port Alberni. Bring a lawn chair! In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cancer Society or BC Children's Hospital. Jack chose to be cremated, and his ashes will be interned at 19 Wing Airforce Beach in Comox, fulfilling his everlasting wish to be with his son, Wesley. Yates Memorial Services in Port Alberni is assisting with the arrangements.

Jacks last written words to be shared with all are as follows:

"There are so many people that have touched my life, I do not know where to start to let them know how important they are. You are all with me on my new journey."

The Payne family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses for their compassionate care and kindness throughout Jack's brave battle with Cancer.

Rest in peace, Dad (Jack). Your legacy of love and dedication will forever be cherished by those whose lives you touched.
