JAMES ALVIN HOLBORN

May 27, 1932 – January 16, 2014


James A. Holborn, 81, of Port Alberni, BC passed away at West Coast General Hospital on January 16, 2014. He was born in Hinton Trail, Alberta May 23, 1932 the son of Mary and Robert Holborn. Jim was pre-deceased by his parents and siblings Floyd, Erena, Frederick and Hugh. Victor Holborn, his wife Lyn and nieces and nephews are the remaining Holborn family. His wife, the love of his life, pre-deceased him November 5, 2012. He has five stepchildren, LaVerne Dunn, Gerald Danyluk and wife Gale, Tyrone Danlock, David Danyluck and Nicki Rooker. He has six step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren.

For a short time, Jim served in the Canadian Air Force and became an Army Reserve Sergeant Major in Edmonton. After being discharged from military service, he embarked on several jobs from raising tropical fish for Woodward’s, selling appliances for Sears, making foam pillows in Vancouver to retiring from the Weyerhaeuser Port Alberni Pulp Mill steam plant, June 1, 1997.

Jim was an active member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Arrowsmith Lodge #53 since 1993. He also served the community as a Citizen on Patrol and volunteered for the Port Alberni Summer Olympics.

He was a man of many interests, such as collecting pins, reading, playing his guitar, creating bonsai plants, astrology and the spiritual realm. Jim loved nature and animals. He always had a joke to share on line and verbally.

Our step-dad or, as he loved to be called by grandchildren, PaPa Jim, will be sorrowfully missed as he continues his journey in life.
