It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jo-Anne Louise Asher (Holcombe) in the soft morning hours of August 31, 2016, following a tenaciously-fought battle with cancer. Jo-Anne follows into eternal rest her parents, Christopher and Evelyn, and her elder sister Trudy, and leaves to mourn her steadfast and loving partner Ken Moore, her sons Derron (Carly) and Brad, grandchildren Tyson, Graci, and Janelle, nephews Scott (Masako) and Todd (Jessica), and grand-niece Sara-Lynne, along with relatives and friends across British Columbia, the United States, and beyond. Jo-Anne was born November 4, 1947 into a pioneering Alberni Valley family, and learned from an early age to love the land and the sea, and to draw sustenance from both – a love that she would instill in her sons to be shared with their own families. An entrepreneur, outdoors-person, and respected Notary, Jo-Anne was deeply fond of the Alberni Valley and spent the entirety of her sixty-eight years here: she would become one of Port Alberni’s most recognized and trusted citizens, and would touch the lives of many. Those fortunate enough to have been drawn into her orbit remember her unabashed vivacity, her generosity, and the unreserved love that she shared with those around her. Jo-Anne’s buoyant and resilient spirit will be sorely missed by many, but most acutely so by her family, for whom her fierce love and pride knew no bounds. A celebration of Jo-Anne’s life will be announced and held at a later date. Her family wishes to thank the medical and nursing staff of West Coast General Hospital, especially Dr. Wendy Johnson, and the compassionate caregivers of the Alberni Valley Hospice Society’s Ty Watson House. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Alberni Valley Hospice Society or to the Canadian Cancer Society in Jo-Anne’s name.
