Barker, Lela passed away in Ty Watson House on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at the age of 99 years.
Predeceased by her husband Les; Lela is survived by her son Ron (Jeanette); grandchildren Mike (Judy) and Sherry; great grandchildren Wesley, Matthew and Amy; and brother Vern of Hope, BC.
Born in the lower mainland, Lela found her calling as a teacher at the early age of 19. After a very short time teaching up in a remote area in northern BC., she married Les and the two came to the Valley. Lela found employment as an elementary teacher as well as a Sunday School teacher for the First Baptist Church. When not in school she enjoyed traveling with Les in their motorhome and spent time with Les golfing. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren and gardening.
A Celebration of Lela’s life will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday, September 24, 2016 at First Baptist Church, 6211 Cherry Creek Road, Port Alberni, BC.
