Lillian ‘Maxine’ passed away peacefully in Nanaimo on Friday, September 16, 2016 at the age of 78 years. Predeceased by her sister Peggy Powell and an infant son, Keith; Maxine is survived by loving husband Bill Clift; children Kelly (Denise), Kirk (Marion), Kerry (Dwayne) and Jo- Ann; grandchildren Melissa, Kristy, Aaron, Morgan, Matthew, Jilian, Jodi, Robinson, Kyle, Shawn, and Jamie as well as 14 great grandchildren. The youngest of six Earthy children born to Ted and Ruby, she was raised in Port Alberni and primarily lived there until she moved to Ladysmith in 1974, returning in the late 1980’s. She was a loving, giving sister, daughter, wife, mother and grandmother that was very active in the lives and interests of her family members. Her children leaned toward athletic activities and Maxine was actively involved in many of them, from the Ladies Auxiliary for the Port Alberni Boxing Club; to working concession for softball and baseball tournaments; to being a constant cheering section for all her children’s and grandchildren’s endeavours. She relished her role as Grandmother and Matriarch to her growing family and along with Bill, they made sure that they were very involved in their families’ lives. She was a constant for her family, rarely putting herself before them and thereby setting an example for truly unconditional love. Following in her own mother’s footsteps, she loved to cook and bake for the family and some of the favourites were the family recipes passed down for raisin drop cookies, fresh bread, creamed peas on toast, and meatballs and gravy. A celebration of life will be held 24th from 1pm to 4pm Saturday, September 24th, 2016 at Beaver Creek Hall, 8505 Beaver Creek Road. Stories and condolences may be shared at that time, or forwarded to the family at www.chapelofmemories.ca While Maxine loved flowers, it was her wish that in lieu and in respect of others that may be facing problems, that donations in her name may be made to the Kidney Foundation, BC and Yukon Branch 200 – 4940 Canada Way, Burnaby, BC V5G 4K6 The family would like to extend their thanks to the Doctors and nurses in both the Port Alberni and Nanaimo Regional General Hospital Renal Units. Maxine thought so highly of all the wonderful staff there.
