It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Michael (Mike) Maher. He passed away peacefully on Sept. 28th, 2016 at West Coast General Hospital. He was a loving Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle, and Friend to all. He was predeceased by his Parents Tom and Mary Maher, his Father and Mother in law, Donald and Lillian Hardisty, his Brother in law Jim Mcdonald, Nephews Darcy Mcdonald and Matthew Robinson, & close family friend Allan Green. Mike will be forever remembered by his loving wife & best friend Valerie Maher (Hardisty) , his daughters Michelle Lennox, Toni Bryson, and his son-in-laws Clayton Lennox, David Bryson, and his 3 precious Grandchildren Garron Lennox, Kaley Lennox, and Ethan Bryson. Also survived by his siblings Tom (Pat) Maher, Anne Mcdonald, Kathy (Bill) Allen, Lillian (Brad) Robinson, Elizabeth Maher, & Janet (Walter) Pleasants and brother-in-laws Bill (Barb) Hardisty, Jim Hardisty, Sister-in-law Wilma (Mike) Lishchynski, and by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. Mike was born January 14, 1948 and raised in Port Alberni, BC. He was a true Beaver Creeker and was known by his friends as King of Mckenzie Rd. At the young age of 16, Mike started working in the forestry industry for various companies, until he started working for J.A Mckay Trucking Ltd. He worked there for 35 years until retirement at the age of 60. Mike loved to live life to the fullest, and was never afraid to try something new. He enjoyed adventurous bike rides, hikes, road trips, and even roller coasters. After retirement, Mike and Val spent many hours dancing the night away at various Jam nights. Mike loved a good game of pool with his friends, and especially with his brother- in- law Bill. If he wasn’t out working in his yard, you would probably find him reading a good book, hanging out with his son-in-laws and Grandchildren playing video games, or playing dominoes with his family. Mike was well known for his great sense of humour & his knack of being an instigator, though always in fun. We would like to thank Dr Kenward, Dr. Kulla, Dr. Saltman, Dr. Marback, and all the staff at Victoria and Nanaimo Cancer Clinics. Dr. Van Der Merwe and all the staff at West Coast General Hospital. Also thanks to Larry & all the employees at the Medicine Shoppe. A Celebration of Mike’s Life will be held 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm on Saturday October 8th at Cherry Creek Hall in Port Alberni, BC, Mike and Valerie had recently celebrated their 45th anniversary. Mike will be missed by all. Love you........of course.
