August 1, 1946 - April 16, 2024

In Loving Memory ~

Michael (Mike) Noel Lang was born in Duncan, BC, on August 1, 1946, and passed away on April 16, 2024. He was 77 years old and had been a long-time resident of Port Alberni. He passed away at West Coast General Hospital surrounded by his immediate family, after battling cancer for 22 years.

Mike grew up in Lake Cowichan where he met his wife, Yvonne Croteau. They married in 1969, and moved to Port Alberni to begin a family. Mike was a carpenter by trade and later a superintendent on larger projects in Port Alberni and the surrounding districts. He was superintendent for the planning and construction of the Harbour Quay, which quickly became a treasure of the town.

He was always a strong supporter of his union and later in his career took up the role of Business Agent with the BC Carpenters Union, Local 513.

Mike loved the Valley, and during his retirement continued to stay involved in local community projects. He was the Regional Representative for the BC Labour Council, and was involved in various reconstruction projects such as at the Alberni Fish and Game Club.

Mike loved the great outdoors, and shared this love with those around him. He was an avid sport fisher and hunter. Every summer, he was eager to get out into the canal and catch "The Big One." He would take family and friends on his boat, and especially loved the joy of reeling in the Springs.

He enjoyed sharing this with his children and his grandchildren. He planned hunting trips every year with his good friends, hunting deer, moose, or elk - he was a wonderful provider for his family.

Mike loved to share stories about hunting and fishing, and his friends would often drop by to chat over a can (or two) of Lucky. He will be sorely missed.

Mike is predeceased by his parents, Winifred and Raymond.

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Yvonne, and their two children: Ray (Eileen) and Susan (Peter). Mike had four grandchildren: Cameron, Tyler, Portia and Liam. His sister, Judy and her daughter Shawna, live in Ucluelet.

Mike was close to other members of his family who lived in Port Alberni, including Sonya Croteau, Mar Gelton, and Melanie Croteau (Greg Mannix). There are many other family members and friends who loved him dearly, and he will surely be missed by all who knew him.

There will be a Celebration of Life held on Saturday, June 8 at 1pm at the Italian Hall. We welcome all friends and family, and will enjoy sharing stories of Mike and his antics over the years.

In lieu of flowers please send donations to the West Coast General Hospital Foundation. The family extends profound gratitude to the nursing staff at WCGH who took care of him during his extended stays in the hospital.

Thank you all for your love, support and comfort during this difficult time.
