Nora Moncur passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends at Ty Watson House in Port Alberni, B.C. on November 27, 2015 at the age of 51 to ovarian cancer.

Nora is survived by loving husband John of 28 years; beloved sons Eric and Sam; Parents Bruna and Tony; sisters Maria Law, Pat (Darryl) Goodman, Sonia (Todd) Organ; numerous nieces and nephews along with extended family in the U.S. and Italy as well as her many friends and colleagues.

Born and raised in the Alberni Valley, Nora graduated from Alberni District Secondary School to pursue her dream of teaching, with a degree at the University of Victoria. Nora then returned to Port Alberni and married her husband John. The couple briefly lived in the Lower Mainland, before coming back to the valley in 1993 where they made their home and raised their two sons. Nora began teaching at ADSS and Mt. Klitsa schools eventually to obtain a Master’s Degree at Gonzaga University and become vice principal and principal at both Neill Middle School and ADSS. Nora was honoured to be the first female principal of ADSS and loved her staff and students dearly. Kind hearted and patient, Nora was a determined educator.

Nora was an avid reader who would spend countless hours in her beautiful backyard with a good book and her Yorkshire terrier dog Thor. She loved country

music, travel, and gardening. Nora was considered a culinary adventuress, always up for trying the most exotic in cuisines. She will be dearly missed by all.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 11 am, Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015 at the ADSS theatre, 4000 Roger Street, Port Alberni, B.C.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Nora’s memory may be made to Ty Watson House, 3088-3rd Avenue, Port Alberni B.C. V9Y 2A5.
