Fishing trawlers are a drag

Factory trawlers like the Norwegian trawler Raw Spirit should be shipped back to Norway, one reader says.

To the Editor,

Factory trawlers like the Norwegian trawler Raw Spirit should be shipped back to Norway. Greenpeace would be right there to shut them down. Why are we letting them in here?

They drag nets on the bottom of the seabeds and everything in the nets’ way is gone. Who is willing to take the personal responsibility when our fishing is depleted?

We are close enough to this problem without the trawler being established here yet.

Sport fishing and trolling for salmon are far more sustainable, and provide more jobs, than dragging the bottom of the ocean floor.

That will deplete most of what we have left.
