To the Editor,

How fortunate we are to have another excellent lineup of movies to enjoy in the winter film series announced recently.

The Breadwinner, coming Feb. 25, has been acclaimed by critics as an excellent animated film set in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan.

Although an unlikely contender, it was included by the Globe and Mail critic in her Oscar choices for best picture.

Actor Sally Hawkins made a lasting impression in Maudie, seen here in an earlier series. She is being touted for a possible best actress award.

Incidentally, both these films are Canadian made.

The film festival, presented by the Alberni Valley Museum, deserves our support.

It kicks off this season on Jan. 28.

Meg Scoffield,

Port Alberni
