To the Editor,

I think it is time for us citizens to speak out about the way Port Alberni City Council is running the city. The atrocious way they are trying to increase the tax burden by raising our taxes in double digits is absolutely out of question.

Without a doubt, people in our fair city that are already suffering because of the increasing inflation rate are definitely in a dilemma of not being able to live in a comfortable environment because of the way the inflation rate is going. Then the city comes up with a way to increase the problem for taxpayers. What is wrong with this picture?

Does city council not see this problem? Premier David Eby does not understand either, he seems to be OK with raising the carbon tax, which is another way of running up the inflation rate on home heating.

Do our government representatives not see the families that are having a hard time feeding their loved ones? The people that are trying to overcome the hardships of making ends meet?

City council seems to think that this is a wealthy town. Let me try to make them understand, this is a town of people that are trying to overcome the hardships of living. Having to see in print in the paper that the city is buying property, expanding walkways, spending millions of dollars they claim will help the citizens of our fair city makes me think we voted in the wrong people.

Hardships are an overabundance in town and I think the city should be looking into making the hardships a little easier and not increasing them—which is what this tax hike will do. It’s time for city council to wake up: this tax hike will hurt a lot of people in this town.

Council needs to figure out a way to decrease taxes and show the people that they are on our side.

Dave Noble,

Port Alberni
