To the Editor,

Re: “City councillor proposes new campground,” Alberni Valley News, March 6, 2024

Regarding the city campground proposal: what happened with the Dry Creek Campground?

Dry Creek has water and a sani-dump close to Smitty’s and Dairy Queen restaurants. Harbour Quay is a short stroll away, as is the boat launch and all the businesses on Third Avenue. It offers something waterfront with beaches and nature walking trails, close to moorage and waterfront entertainment and music.

Port Alberni has given its prime tourist waterfront areas to mill sites and ruined the natural beauty and recreation opportunities of the inlet. It should be trail from Clutesi Haven Marina all along the water to the old boy scout camp (Great Central Lake).

It could be beautiful but it was all given to industry that has left it a mess and there are no jobs now. I grew up in Port Alberni but found no work and had to leave.
