New blood needed in Alberni's city council

To the Editor,

With a world turning in on itself seeking solutions to myriad problems, we too, in Port Alberni and surrounds, should closely examine the road we have travelled towards economic improvement.

Over the past 10 years our overall local economy has been in a downward slide, with fewer and fewer jobs available. This has put many families under great stress.

Our younger population is forced to seek employment in distant places. Our students in post-secondary colleges have few prospects for which to return. Our elected representatives at all levels, from municipalities up, have failed to fulfill the expectations we held when we elected them.

So perhaps this time, starting at the municipal level, we stop re-electing those who have consistently failed us in the past. Their experience counts for nothing if they have nothing tangible to show for it.

We won’t get change unless we demand it.

We are in need of fresh and bold new initiatives. The status quo will not guide us to a better economic future.

PJ O’Connell,

Port Alberni
