Letters to the Editor

LNG nothing but pipe dream

To the Editor,

There is no way that an LNG project for here could compete economically with LNG plants in Kitimat and/or Prince Rupert. So we’re likely to see pigs fly before we see an LNG plant in this area.

Why, oh why haven’t you written any editorials pointing out the absolute futility of pursuing an LNG plant here or anywhere on Vancouver Island? We’ve had similar ideas for aluminum smelters and textile plants here which haven’t gone anywhere.

Up to now, the public has been misled about such proposals, and some actually believe/believed that such proposals are/were viable, leading to false hope and expectations—not good in a depressed economy.

The public good demands that such folly should be exposed editorially.

Richard Berg,

Port Alberni
