Alberni's  first game of the season against Trail was a victory as the Bulldogs beat the Smoke Eaters 5-4 at the AV Multiplex on Saturday night.

The Bulldogs lead 2-1 after the first period on goals by Tryg Strand and Teal Burns before Trail's Jesse Knowler notched one for the Smoke Eaters. The Bulldogs notched three more goals to Trail's two before Trail pulled within one in the third period but that was it.

Trail had 41 shots on goal to the Bulldogs 26. Both teams were blanked on their powerplays: The Bulldogs went 0-6, Trail 0-5.

Bulldogs Tryg Strand and Evan Tironese took first and second stars of the game while Trail's Luke Sandler was third star.
